In defense of slow strategy games on your phone
Most mobile strategy games are built to interrupt you. Constant pings, timers, tiny rewards for tapping. I used to accept that as normal until I spent time with Frontier Dominion, which flips the whole idea.
Here you set plans and walk away. You decide how to expand, what to research, who to trade with, and then you let it play out. Coming back later to see your decisions pay off is far more satisfying than a dopamine tap every minute.
It takes some adjustment. The first few hours feel almost too calm. But once I leaned into the slower rhythm, it became the strategy game I actually looked forward to opening, rather than one that nagged me.
If you've burned out on frantic mobile strategy, try the patient kind. It respects your time instead of farming your attention.
